Information on *.4bp files
==========================
(prepared by Bob Gurda, WI State Cartographer's Office
April 14, 1991)
The files with the extension "4bp" are digital orthophoto images,
saved at 4 bits per pixel. This means that the encoded information
represents 16 gray levels per spatial cell. The original
information that was coded at 8 bits (256 gray levels) was drawn
to a VGA screen (capable of showing 16 gray levels), and then
saved. By "compressing" the gray level information in this way,
large amounts of storage space are saved; as a result, several
images can be placed on one diskette. The disadvantage is that
"slicing" is much less useful.
To view any of these *.4bp files using the IMDISP display program,
simply type "file", choose a file for viewing, and then type
"display". These files can also be zoomed as you wish (see IMDISP
program instructions in IMDISP.DOC).
To view all 6 of the files as part of the demo program,
type "batch demo-res.bat" and respond to the instructions.
